Roasting Ears of Corn Festival

The Roasting Ears of Corn Festival is a festival that supports and educates festival goers about Native American culture. This year was the 34th year that the festival was held in the Lehigh Valley. The festival took place this Saturday and Sunday and was very easy to find. We didn't even need help from Siri! The location of the festival is right off of Cedar Crest Boulevard on Fish Hatchery Road and held in a beautiful spot where the Museum of Indian Culture is conveniently located across the street.

Today we went to the festival for the first time after reading about it in the local newspaper. We were so drawn to The Roasting Ears of Corn Festival because our great great grandfather was in one of the Sioux tribes. I know there are different types of Sioux tribes, but the exact one he was in is unknown to us, unfortunately. We were there for hours oohing and ahhing at all the jewelry, performances, purses, pottery, clothing, and other handmade items. There was also sage galore at almost every vendor's tent. Performances take place on each day and continue throughout the day. They include dancing, singing, music, hoopers, fire dancers, and demonstrations of all sorts. Tonight I'm going to share A LOT of pictures of performers, setups that included artifacts, and some goodies that we bought.I hope you like everything as much as I (or should I say we) do!

P.S. I highly advise anyone who plans on attending the festival in the future to order a Roasted Corn on the Cob - with butter.
Amazing.

Here we go!

Below, we attempted to learn how to throw spears - or arrows - whatever you want to call them. We thought we threw Tomahawks because that's what the sign said, but if you Google, "Tomahawks" these are definitely not what pops up.

Now for our favorite part...

Free dream catchers, lavender, dream catcher key-chain, arrowhead, and a window decal that says, "You are right where you need to be."

Amen to that!

I really hope anyone that gets a chance to read this can attend next year's festival and learn to appreciate this culture and help preserve it!
